Shikha Gandhi
MAcc 2004, CA, Deloitte
2008 Fellow: Gigi D'Souza |
I am delighted to present the second annual School of Accounting and Finance Young Alumni Award to Shikha Gandhi.
Shikha is a senior manager at Deloitte working for the firm’s Global IFRS and Offering Services. Her career began when she started at Deloitte as a second year student on a co-op work-term. After graduating with her MAcc in 2004, Shikha joined Deloitte as her full-time career. She began in the firm’s technology and telecommunications group, but soon after accepted a six month secondment to Deloitte’s offices in Australia where she worked on wineries and shipping companies. Today Shikha spends her time helping companies transition their Canadian GAAP financial statements to new bases of accounting as well as helping companies resolve a wide range of complex accounting issues.
Fortunately for us, Shikha remains a strong supporter to the School. She is the vice president of the Accounting and Finance Alumni Association. She is an honouree and regularly participates in the fellowship interviews, and was a key volunteer for the grand opening of the new building. In fact, she put her orientation leadership skills to use that day as she led everyone in an enthusiastic Waterloo cheer! She is an advocate of co-op education, and has also taught an introduction to business in North America course for a semester at the School. Recently she served as a technical reviewer for two intermediate accounting textbooks which should be coming out this January.
When asked for Shikha’s advice on how to succeed she says “the only person who can take your career places is you. Take the initiative and ask for the opportunity to work on something challenging or different. If you take your career where you want it to go, you just might find yourself with new responsibilities or experiencing a six month work term in Australia, like I did.”
We are proud of you Shikha, congratulations on receiving this very special honour. |
