Alumni Achievement Award

The School of Accounting and Finance Alumni Achievement Award was established in 2009 to recognize the accomplishments of the University of Waterloo's School of Accounting and Finance alumni.

The Award was established to provide tangible recognition of alumni who have distinguished themselves through their professional achievements, as well as community and public service.

Accomplishments/Achievements:

A nominee should have achieved a notable level of success and participated in activities that inspire peers, other UW alumni, and students.
The Selection Committee (defined below) will take into consideration criteria such as, but not limited to:

  • Business, entrepreneurship, and/or management accomplishments
  • Volunteer leadership and humanitarian endeavours
  • Graduated with an undergraduate and/or graduate degree from the School of Accounting and Finance and/or an accounting designated degree program including math and science at the University of Waterloo

Definition of an Alumnus:

The School of Accounting and Finance alumni will be broadly defined to include graduates from the School of Accounting and Finance undergraduate and/or graduate programs, graduates from the Arts Accountancy program, the Mathematics Chartered Accountancy program and Biotechnology Chartered Accountancy program

The School of Accounting and Finance welcomes nominations for its Alumni Achievement Award from anyone (alumni, students, faculty, staff, retirees, and members of the public) familiar with the work, character and/or achievements of a uWaterloo's School of Accounting and Finance alumnus. 

To nominate an individual for the Alumni Achievement Award, an online nomination form must be completed and submitted.

Where there is not sufficient room to include all of the pertinent information on the nomination form, nominators are invited to attach additional information and submit directly to Alexandra Lippert, SAF Alumni Officer.

  1. Call for nominations continues throughout the year. Friends, family, colleagues, faculty members and other alumni may nominate alumni candidates.
  2. All nominations will be reviewed by the Selection Committee.
  3. The Selection Committee will select the Alumni Achievement Award winner.
  4. The Alumni Achievement Award winner will be notified by the Director of the School of Accounting and Finance
  5. Alumni nominated but not chosen by the Selection Committee will remain in a nomination pool for consideration in subsequent years.
  6. The School of Accounting and Finance Alumni Achievement Award is presented in the fall at the School of Accounting and Finance Awards Dinner.

All nominations must be received by April 30th. Nominations received after April 30th will be considered in the following year.

2010 SAF Alumni Award Winner - Keith Farlinger

In the second year of the SAF Alumni Award, the School of Accounting and Finance is proud to have presented the award to Keith Farlinger (BMath '77), who has made an outstanding contribution through his professional achievements and community and public service.
2009 SAF Alumni Award Winner - Robert Harding

SAF
The School of Accounting and Finance is the only English speaking professional school of its kind in Canada. We offer 2 undergraduate (Accounting and Financial Management and Computing and Financial Management) and 3 graduate (Master of Accounting; Master of Taxation; PhD in Accounting) programs to provide students with the technical, analytical, evaluative, and communication skills needed to prepare for successful careers in public accounting, finance, industry, government and not-for-profit sectors. In conjunction with the Faculties of Mathematics and Science, the School also administers 2 undergraduate programs (Mathematics/Chartered Accountancy; Biotechnology/Chartered Accountancy) and 1 graduate program (Master of Quantitative Finance).
