School of Accounting and Finance Fellowship Honourees
Brian earned his BA in Economics in 1975 from the University of Waterloo. In 1981 he earned his CA designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO).
Brian has been instrumental in identifying, planning and implementing many improvements to the CA education system in Ontario. As a CA student, he spent from 1978 to 1984 at Campbell Sharp (now Grant Thornton LLP), where he wore three hats -- Audit Manager, Manager of Human Resources and Manager of the UFE Prep Program.
Brian joined the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) in 1984 as their Assistant Director of Education. In 1988, he became their Director of the School of Accountancy (Professional Program), and in 1990, their Director of Education (Operations). Brian became the organization’s Director of Education in 1996, and General Director of Learning in 1999. In 2002, he assumed the role of Vice President of Learning. In June of 2006, Brian was elected to Fellowship and can now add FCA to his credentials.
In addition to his valuable contributions to the CA education system, Brian has made significant contributions to the community. In June 2000, he joined the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario. In 2001, he was elected their First Vice President, and in 2002, he was elected their President. Brian also serves as convener and coach in the intermediate division of the Vaughan Girl’s Hockey Association.
Brian’s hobbies include music (former lead guitar player in a rock band) and hockey. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, also a UW graduate, and three daughters.
