Cindy Ditner

School of Accounting and Finance Fellowship Honourees

Cindy Ditner, MAcc, CA, CMA

Cindy started at UW in the Math faculty and then transferred to Arts to participate in the second MAcc class. She graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts, Honours Chartered Accountancy Studies, and then completed her Master of Accounting in August 1986, before writing the UFE in September of that year. She wrote the final CMA exam in January 1987, and completed the practical experience requirements for her CA and CMA designations later that year.

After working in public practice with BDO Ward Mallette in Hanover and North Toronto, Cindy transferred to their National Office in Toronto to work in the accounting, auditing and training department. This allowed her to continue with the technical side of accounting and auditing, while having the chance to meet people and see the practical side of the world. In 2002, she was offered partnership in BDO Dunwoody LLP, where she continues to develop her career.

In her role as National Professional Standards Partner, Cindy has been involved in several international BDO committees and has taught courses all across Canada and in several parts of Europe, the US and Asia.

Cindy has been involved with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) over the years. She started as a seminar leader with the ICAO’s School of Accountancy, and progressed to Coordinator of Professional Practice, a position she held from 1995 to 1998. She also served with ICAO as the Chair of the Examinations Committee until 2005. Cindy has also participated in several advisory groups for CICA, and was a member of the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board from 2000-2008.

Cindy is currently the past president of the UW Accounting Alumni Association, which sponsors several events throughout the year for students and alumni. In her spare time, Cindy enjoys travel, camping, canoeing, and most sports, with a particular interest in figure skating, hockey, tennis, volleyball and swimming.
