Donald G. Craig, BMath, FCA
Don graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1974 with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree. He joined Deloitte Haskins and Sells, a predecessor firm to Deloitte & Touche, and passed the CA exams in 1975, placing fourth in Ontario and in the top 20 in Canada. In 1988, he was elected an FCA, one of the youngest to have received that honour.
Don has worked in both the Toronto and Kitchener offices of Deloitte & Touche. He was admitted to the partnership in 1983, became the Kitchener Office’s Managing Partner in 1995, and the Managing Partner for South Western Ontario in 2000. In 2001, Don returned to Toronto, where he served as the Managing Partner Audit for the years 2001 to 2007. Don spendt much of his time working the CPAB during their annual inspections of Deloitte.
Don was a founding member of the University of Waterloo Accounting Alumni Association and served as president from 1986 to 1988. He also served as Ontario’s representative to the CICA Board of Examiners from 1988 to 1992, and as Chair of the Board of Examiners from 1993 to 1994.
Don was an active volunteer in the Kitchener Waterloo community. He was the past president of the Canadian Junior Chamber and Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest. He was named Kitchener-Waterloo Citizen of the Year in 1994. His wife Marilyn holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, and his daughter Donna Gilbert and son-in-law Brandon Gilbert hold Masters of Accounting from the University of Waterloo.
Don passed away in July 2009 and is remembered fondly for his many contributions to the school, the accounting profession and the community.
