Steve Glover, BMath, MBA, FCA
Steve Glover currently serves as Vice President, finance and CFP for a junior oil company (TSC-V) in Calgary. He earned his Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo in 1975 and his CA designation the following year. He later earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alberta in 1987. Steve’s career has included public accounting in a major firm and lecturing in accounting at the University of Waterloo.
Steve began his career with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta (ICAA) in 1979 and was named Executive Director in 1984. Four years later, Council elected him a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants. As chief executive officer for about 20 years, Steve managed all ICAA operations and ensured that the Institute met its statutory obligations to govern Alberta CAs in the public interest.
In 2005 Steve joined Valiant Energy Inc. (listed on TSX as VLE) as VP, Finance and served in that role until Valiant's merger with Peerless Energy Inc. in September 2006. In November of 2006 he acceptted the CFO position with Eagle Rock Exploration Ltd. (ERX on the TSX Venture Exchanges).
Over the years, Steve has contributed to the CA profession in many ways. He has played a key role within the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) to help shape the Vision CA, which has included work on education reform, governance re-engineering, and a formal program to certify CA specialists. Through his appointment as a Director on the Canadian Public Accountability Board, Steve assisted in overseeing the design, implementation and enforcement of the independent inspection of Canadian public company auditors.
At the international level, Steve has served on the Education Committee of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). Steve is Past President of the Edmonton Downtown Rotary Club, and has served as Director and executive committee member of the Winspear Foundation, Director of the Edmonton Community Foundation, President of the Northern Light Theatre, and Treasurer of the University of Alberta Business Alumni Association. He also served on the Board of Directors of Caritas Health Group. In 2001, Steve received the University of Alberta Alumni Association Honour Award, and has been named a finalist in the Alberta Venture eAwards, Community category.
