Teresa Fortney

Teresa Fortney, BMath, FCMA

Teresa earned her Bachelor of Mathematics degree (Accounting) from the University of Waterloo in 1986. She subsequently earned her CMA designation and was later honoured as an FCMA.

Teresa’s career began in Toronto with Phillips Cables in Treasury and Taxation, where she became their Assistant Treasurer and then their Controller. After starting a family, she and her husband moved to Guelph, where she joined Schneider Foods. At Schneider’s, she started in Treasury, moved to Operations Accounting, and ultimately assumed the role of Vice President, Finance. In this role, she led the EDI group, participated in many acquisitions and integrations, developed pork contract pricing and risk sharing models, implemented a business assessment and planning process for Finance, and participated on the Schneider’s Strategic Planning and Executive committees.

After 10 years, Teresa left Schneider’s in November 2003 to join Maple Leaf Consumer Foods as their Vice President, Finance. She worked on the merger of Schneider Foods and Consumer Foods. In recognition of her valued work, Teresa has been made the Senior Vice President Finance for Maple Leaf Consumer Foods.

In her spare time, Teresa enjoys volunteer work. She has been active with the Society of Management Accountants of Ontario, serving as President, the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, and a Christian children’s camp. She spends much of her time in the summer watching her three children play competitive baseball. She also enjoys travel, skiing, and reading.
