Tim Bauer

School of Accounting and Finance Fellowship Honourees

Tim Bauer, MAcc, CA

Native to Kitchener-Waterloo, Tim attended the University of Waterloo not only for its close proximity to family and friends, but also for its outstanding and highly regarded accounting program. He successfully obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts, Chartered Accountancy Studies, and a Masters of Accounting. Tim’s education led to his successful completion of the UFE in 2003.

While at the University of Waterloo, Tim’s other main passion was rugby. He played for the men's varsity team for the five years that he attended the university. During that time, he was an Academic All-Canadian, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) All-star, co-captain, and was named the Trillium Award winner as the best all-around rugby athlete in the OUA.

From 2003 to 2006, Tim worked for Ernst & Young LLP in Kitchener in both their audit and tax practices, obtaining his CA in 2005. However, ties to Waterloo and the accounting program kept calling him back. Tim has stayed on as an assistant coach with the UW Women's varsity rugby team. He was part of a team that started the School of Accountancy alumni pledge program and has been involved with the annual Ernst & Young sponsored MAcc and Diploma student retreat.

2006 marked some big changes in Tim's life. He married fellow UW Engineering grad Elaine in July and the pull to UW was so strong that he began his doctoral studies here in September. He hopes to graduate with a PhD in accounting in 2011 and pursue a career in Academia.
