Adam Laiken

School of Accounting and Finance Fellowship Honourees

Adam Laiken, BA, MAcc (2004), CA, CBV

Adam received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Accounting from the University of Waterloo in 2004. Upon graduating from the undergraduate program, Adam received the Mack McKie Scholarship from the Tax Executives Institute for having the highest average grade in the three undergraduate tax courses, as well as the Faculty of Arts Alumni Gold Medal at convocation. At convocation for the Master of Accounting, Adam received the Accounting Alumni Gold Medal. His good fortune continued that year with a placement on the National Honour Roll of the 2004 UFE.  Adam is most grateful to all the quality professors and staff at the School of Accounting and Finance for his academic success.

Notwithstanding his lineage, tax award and indoctrination in the Microcosm of Life from a young age, and to the disappointment of many, Adam decided not to pursue a career in tax. Adam’s co-op terms were spent in the Financial Services and Insurance audit practice at Ernst & Young; however, after spending a year as a Senior Accountant, he chose to pursue a career in restructuring. Adam is currently a Manager at Deloitte & Touche in its Reorganization Services group within Financial Advisory. In Reorganization Services, Adam has worked on and led engagements across the entire “spectrum of trouble”, assisting companies early on in an informal turnaround role, as well as working on more formal restructurings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.

Inspired by the valuation course in the MAcc program, Adam completed his Chartered Business Valuator designation in 2009 and is currently enrolled in the Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP) designation program.

Adam enjoys travelling and is a passionate baseball and Blue Jays fan and is confident of their chances for next year!
