Christine Wiedman

Christine I. Wiedman, MAcc, PhD, CA

Christine graduated from the University of Waterloo’s School of Accounting and Finance with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987 and a Master of Accounting in 1988. After working for Deloitte Haskins and Sells (now Deloitte & Touche) in Toronto and obtaining her CA designation in 1989, she moved to Ithaca, New York to pursue her PhD in Management at Cornell University. While at Cornell, Christine received the ICAO Doctoral Fellowship and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Fellowship.

Christine joined the faculty at The College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1993 and was a faculty member there until 1999. From 1999 to 2006 she was an Associate Professor at the Richard Ivey School of Business. At Ivey, she received the HBA David C. Burgoyne Award for outstanding commitment to student development in 2001, and MBAA Lawrence G. Tapp Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005. In the fall of 2006, she joined the School of Accounting and Finance at the University of Waterloo. Christine received the Best Paper Award, Financial Accounting and Reporting Section from the American Accounting Association in 2007.

At Waterloo, Christine divides her time between teaching, research and service to the school and the academic / accounting community. Christine's research focuses on determinants of a firm's reporting and disclosure choices, and the interpretation of accounting disclosures by capital market participants. She has received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, and Deloitte & Touche/Canadian Academic Accounting Association Research Grant Program. In service to the community, Christine is currently a member of the Academic Advisory Council to the Accounting Standards Board. She was honoured as Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (FCA) in 2006.

Christine enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She also enjoys classical music, traveling and hiking.
