Cristina Shortt, MAcc, CA, CMA, CFP

Cristina completed her Bachelor of Arts (Honours Chartered Accountancy Studies – Mathematics Minor) degree in 1986 and her Masters of Accounting degree in 1987 as a tax major in the graduate program, both at the University of Waterloo. Upon graduation, Cristina successfully completed the Uniform Final Examination (UFE) obtaining the highest mark at Dunwoody & Company for the 1987 UFE. Cristina placed 6th in Ontario in her Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exams. Cristina had worked at Dunwoody & Company as a co-op student and returned to the tax group in the Oshawa office of Dunwoody & Company. She completed the CICA Tax In-Depth program in 1990. After graduation, Cristina enjoyed teaching UFE prep courses, tax courses for the University of Toronto and at summer school. Cristina was active in the Oshawa Kiwanis Club, becoming Oshawa’s first female member and eventually becoming president of the club in 1994. In 1994, Cristina transferred to the Toronto office of BDO Dunwoody and became a partner in 1997.

In 1997, Cristina joined her University of Waterloo classmate, and friend Jane Ritchie (née Sanderson), in partnership. Together and with a team of eight employees, Ritchie & Shortt, Chartered Accountants in Whitby offers a full range of services including audits, reviews, compilations, tax preparation, tax planning and advisory services. The firm has hired many University of Waterloo students over the years.

Cristina and her wonderful husband, Keith, also a University of Waterloo graduate, live in Whitby where they enjoy spending lots of time with their three loving and active children, Matthew, Ryan and Alexandra.
