Darko Lakota

Darko Lakota, MAcc, CA, CFA

Darko graduated from University of Waterloo in 1998 with Bachelor of Mathematics and Master of Accounting degrees, where he was awarded the University of Waterloo Accounting Alumni Gold Medal for his graduate degree academic performance. He wrote the Uniform Final Examination in the same year, tying for 20th place in Ontario. Darko obtained his CA designation in 2000, and a CFA designation in 2002.

Darko articled with Deloitte & Touche (Kitchener office) during his co-op work terms and with KPMG (Toronto office) following graduation. In 2000, he came back to University of Waterloo for one year as a Lecturer with the School of Accounting and Finance, in contemplation of pursuing further academic studies. Upon deciding to return to the private sector in 2001, Darko joined RBC Financial Group in their trading market risk department, analyzing market and credit risks on capital markets transactions. He is currently a Senior Manager, Methodology, in RBC’s portfolio risk management department, responsible for development and implementation of methodologies used to analyze risks in the bank’s corporate loan book.

Darko recently married the love of his life, Alison, in September 2005, after which they spent an idyllic three week honeymoon in Darko’s native Croatia. Darko volunteers with the Free CA Tax Clinics Program, and is a crew leader with Habitat for Humanity – Toronto chapter.
