Elizabeth Anne Demers, PhD, CA, CMA, CBV

Liz graduated from the University of Waterloo’s School of Accounting and Finance with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989 and a Master of Accounting degree in 1990.  After qualifying for her CA, CMA, and CBV designations and spending several post-qualification years working in the specialization of business valuations and litigation accounting, Liz moved to Palo Alto in 1994 to pursue her doctoral studies at Stanford University.  She graduated with a Master of Science (Statistics) degree in 1997 and completed her PhD in accounting in 1999.

Liz moved from California to become an assistant professor at the Wm. E. Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester in 1999, where she taught MBA and Executive MBA courses and was named to the Simon School’s Teaching Honor Roll on numerous occasions.  In 2006 Liz moved to Europe when she joined the faculty of INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.  For INSEAD she teaches MBA and Masters of Finance in Investment Banking students in Europe, Australia, and Asia.

Liz’s current research interests relate to IPOs, studies concerning high tech accounting, finance, and valuation issues, and the textual analysis of managerial earnings announcements.  She has presented her research to academic and investment banking audiences across North America, Europe, and Asia.  Her studies have been published in the top academic accounting and finance journals, including the Review of Accounting Studies, the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Financial Economics, and Contemporary Accounting Research, and her work has been cited in Fortune, Forbes, The Industry Standard, eCompany, and Money magazine.  Liz’s consulting activities include the analysis of financial statements and accounting red flag reviews for hedge funds and other investment managers, litigation support for the quantification of economic damages in accounting fraud and high tech industry cases, and academic and teaching presentations to executives and finance practitioners.

Liz divides her time between a house on the edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau and an apartment in the Marais quarter of Paris.  She enjoys traveling, spending time with her dogs in the forest, dining with friends, cycling, golfing, and playing competitive badminton in Paris and around Europe.
