Cindy Veinot, MAcc, CA, CMA, CPA
After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a Master of
Accounting and Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991, Cindy placed 13th on the
Ontario Honour Roll for the UFE. She went on to win the Canadian Gold
Medal on the CMA exams in 1992, and in 1999 became the first Canadian to
win the Elijah Watt Sells Gold Medal for obtaining the highest marks
among the 63,000 writers of the CPA exams in the United States in
November 1999.
Today she's a partner at Deloitte in the Toronto office Complex
Accounting & Transaction Expertise Group, and helps clients resolve
complex accounting issues in various areas of Canadian and U.S. GAAP.
Within the CA&TE Group, she leads the team that deals with issues
related to revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, as well
various U.S. GAAP issues. Cindy started with Deloitte in Toronto as a
co-op student in September 1989, and worked in the audit practice until
1997, when she moved to Connecticut to complete a 30 month secondment
with the firm's US National Office.
Cindy's also been involved with a number of ICAO and CICA committees and
activities. Most recently, she was a member of the CICA Working Group
formed to develop implementation guidance for CICA 3870, Stock-Based
Compensation and other Stock-Based Payments. In addition, she's helped
others succeed at the UFE exams by teaching at the ICAO School of Accounting and Finance and marking the UFE exams for the CICA for a number of
years. She continues to help others learn about the complexities of
accounting and often speaks at accounting conferences organized by the
CICA, Infonex, Executive Enterprise and Federated Press. On the
volunteer front, Cindy has just finished her three year term as the
treasurer and director of the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund.
In September of 2006, Cindy was awarded the ICAO Award of Distinction.
The newly-established ICAO Award of Distinction honours CAs under the
age of 40 who have brought distinction to themselves and to their
profession through leadership and achievement in their professional,
community and/or personal lives.
