Shawn Porter, MAcc, CA

Shawn graduated from the University of Waterloo's School of Accounting and Finance with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987 and a Masters of Accounting in 1988. He obtained his CA designation in 1989. Shawn joined Arthur Andersen in Toronto as a co-op student and full time in 1988, becoming a partner in 1996. When Arthur Andersen joined Deloitte & Touche in 2002, Shawn became a partner at Deloitte.

Shawn was involved in the inaugaral year of the Master of Taxation Program, where he developed the materials for International Tax I and taught in the program for five years. He is now a member of the Deloitte Centre for Tax Education and Research, which funds research, undergraduate scholarships for the students with an interest in tax, and an annual symposium for professors and doctoral students from across the country who are involved in tax and related disciplines.

Shawn has practiced in the taxation area throughout his career, advising Canadian and foreign based multinationals on a broad range of corporate and international tax matters. He deals extensively with clients involved in mergers and acquisitions, coporate reorganizations, public-private-partnerships, income trusts and REITS. He has addressed the Tax Executives Institute, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the International Fiscal Association, and the Canadian Institute on a variety of subjects. Shawn is also a member of the Editorial Board of International Tax Planning by Federated Press. Shawn serves as the lead engagement partner on several significant client accounts and he served on the Board of Directors of Deloitte & Touche in Canada in 2002 until 2006.

Shawn enjoys early mornings, dining out with friends, country music, traveling on golf trips, and reading.
