James Schlegel

James Schlegel, MAcc, CA

Since the age of 12, James has worked in the “family business” RBJ Schlegel Holdings. RBJ Schlegel has three main divisions: seniors health care (developing, building, operating continuum of care communities for seniors), land development (commercial / residential land development and homebuilding) and agriculture (primary poultry production) with approximately 2,000 employees. He spent his summer holidays through school working in the health care and farming operations and assumed primary responsibility for the agriculture operations when he was 18.

James attended the University of Waterloo graduating with a BA in Accounting in 1990 and a Masters in Accounting in 1992. He received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1992 and worked for Coopers & Lybrand.

In 1993 he began working full time at RBJ Schlegel in a variety of roles including General Manager of a health care community and Vice-President Health Care Operations. Since 2004 James has been the President of RBJ Schlegel with responsibility for the three divisions. He currently spends much of his time on business development, strategic direction, facility design, construction oversight and operational issues.

In his free time, James enjoys being involved in several charitable community organizations believing strongly that it is important to invest personal time to community improvement. He has a keen interest in politics and history. James loves sports having played competitive hockey, basketball, volleyball, track and field. He still enjoys playing hockey and runs whenever he can.
