School of Accounting and Finance Fellowship Honourees
Lynn Wilson, BMath, CA, MA
Lynn Wilson is a champion of the development of leadership in others. A twenty-five year member of Ernst & Young, she is an important part of the People Team leadership group in Canada. Her vision is to create an environment where personal growth and organizational effectiveness can flourish together. Lynn’s areas of focus are inclusiveness, coaching and keeping a finger on the pulse of the Firm via surveys and follow-up interventions.
Lynn is doing exactly what she wants to do at Ernst & Young and loving it. She has combined three internal career paths to get to where she is and uses them to provide complementary perspectives to her work. Lynn has been an advisor to high-tech and entrepreneurial clients, a development consultant focused on cultural change and a consultant on learning and leadership. Lynn was an Ernst & Young Chairman's Values award nominee in 2008.
Lynn has chosen her personal development path in accordance with her career goals. She has a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo, a Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and while working at Ernst & Young, she earned a Masters of Adult Education degree from the University of Toronto. For many years, Lynn has found her way back to the Waterloo campus. She’s been a guest speaker for a program in complex problem-solving and creativity for accountants. As well, Lynn leads an annual welcome and kick-off experience for the MAcc and Diploma students and faculty.
Known for her facilitation and teambuilding skills, Lynn uses these skills both outside Ernst & Young and within. She facilitates groups who want to get better at organizational effectiveness, most recently helping them deal with inclusiveness themselves. Her volunteer activities have included the “Insulin Pumpers” of Hamilton; New Experiences for Refugee Women; Humber Business College Advisor; Performers for Literacy and Friends of Bark Lake Leadership Centre.
Lynn loves to learn as much as she loves to teach. She and her husband Doug have found their two boys, Blake and Brock, some of the best teachers of all. As the boys grow into their teens they are becoming accomplished hockey players, ‘hauling’ their parents all over North America to one tournament or another – maybe even playing for the Olympic gold medal someday!
