Mike Garvey

Mike Garvey, BA, FCA

Mike graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1969 with a BA. in Honours Economics. He earned his CA designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 1972, and received his FCA designation in 1985.

Upon completing his BA, Mike joined Price Waterhouse in Toronto in 1969. He did an international exchange in London, England in 1976 and 1978, and became an Audit Partner in 1982. From 1984 – 1990, Mike served as Chairman of National Continuing Education. He also developed and managed the Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) practice in Cuba in 1995, until his retirement in 2006. He received his ICD.D designation in 2007 and sits on the Board of two public companies.

Mike has been involved in many community activities over the years. He was the founding president of the Accounting Alumni Association at the University of Waterloo, the founding president of National Alumni Council, and a past chair of UW's Board of Govenors. Mike is currently a very active member of the Capital Campaign Committee of the School of Accounting and Finance. Mike has chaired several educational committees at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO). He also has chaired boards at the Donwood Institute, and the Michener Institute of Applied Health Sciences. He was a founding member of Board of Trustees Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
