School of Accounting and Finance Fellowship Honourees
Norbert Woo, MAcc, CA, CPA
Norbert Woo has always been a proud supporter of the School of Accounting and Finance and the accounting profession. During his years at the University of Waterloo, he held leadership positions such as President and Chairperson of the Accounting Students’ Association (ASA), Director of the School's endowment fund - Accounting Students’ Education Contribution (ASEC), and Executive Council Member of the Chartered Accountants Students’ Association of Ontario. In those roles, Norbert organized career development activities, led fundraising efforts to improve accounting education, and represented students on important issues such as education reform. During Norbert's term as ASEC Director, ASEC also started new programs including the School’s Laptop Borrowing Program, Mentor-Buddy Program, ASEC Reference Library, and High School Visit Program. Many of these programs improved the academic experience of Waterloo accounting students and have also attracted prospective students to the School and the accounting profession. Norbert also worked at the School as a teaching and research assistant.
After graduating with honours from UW (B.A. Chartered Accountancy, 2001; MAcc, 2002), Norbert obtained his CPA (2002) and CA (2003) designations, and continued to work with KPMG in its Advisory Services Group. As a consultant, he advised clients on strategic management, business process improvement, risk management, and corporate finance. Norbert then joined Merrill Lynch's Global Markets and Investment Banking Group, where he assisted clients in raising capital and advising them on mergers and acquisitions. Today, Norbert is the Director of Finance and Corporate Planning at Rogers Wireless, a division of Rogers Communications Inc.
Norbert also serves as President of the Toronto Region Council for the Canadian Red Cross Society and is a member of the Society’s Ontario Zone Council. During his four years with the Red Cross, he has been an active member of its Strategic Planning, Performance Measurement and Finance Committees. He recently received a Red Cross Citation for his volunteer efforts. Norbert also continues his involvement with Habitat for Humanity, ICAO Volunteer Tax Clinics and the School of Accounting and Finance's Alumni Committee. He also returns to Waterloo periodically to speak to students about academic and professional development.
