Theresa Libby, PhD, CA
Theresa graduated from the University of Waterloo’s School of Accounting and Finance with a PhD in Accounting in 1996. Soon after, she joined the faculty of the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Professor in the Accounting Area there. Theresa divides her time between teaching, research and service to the academic and accounting communities. Her teaching focuses on management accounting issues. In her research, Theresa considers how the development, presentation and use of accounting information inside organizations affects the decisions and behavior of their managers. Theresa’s research has received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (through their partnerships with Deloitte& Touche, and CMA Canada).
Theresa grew up in Windsor, ON and completed a B. Comm at the University of Windsor in 1986. After graduation, Theresa worked for Arthur Andersen in Toronto as well as KPMG in Kitchener-Waterloo and received her CA designation in 1988. She currently lives in Waterloo with her husband and two children.
Theresa has been a member of the Board of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association and chaired the task force that developed the new Competency Map for CMA Canada. In January, 2008, Theresa will take on a new role as Editor of the journal Behavioral Research in Accounting.
