Estey Undergraduate Business Ethics Competition Guidelines

This paper is to be written on a business ethics topic with an emphasis on accounting or finance related subjects including audit, financial and managerial accounting, assurance, systems, accounting law, tax, finance, and other related issues.

The paper is to be prepared in accordance with usual academic conventions. All sources are to be appropriately referenced and the paper will be evaluated according to both the quality of the content and the quality of the presentation/writing. The paper may already have been submitted for academic credit during the undergraduate program but must be the student’s independent work and should not be a joint project with another person.

The specific guidelines with which the paper must comply are:

  • The paper should be approximately 3000 words.
  • The paper should be double spaced.
  • The paper must be submitted electronically.
  • No references to either the author or the author's home university should be included in the body of the paper (if need be, replace
such a reference with the words "indentifying reference" for review purposes).
  • The cover sheet should identify the title, the author, the academic institution and the sponsoring faculty member.
  • Papers must be received at the School of Accounting and Finance by the end of 31st March, 2012 (please contact Professor Robinson if a short extension is required).

The winning student will receive a $500 cash award. The student should be prepared to present the paper at the Ethics Workshop, the Annual Conference of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association in Charlottetwon, PEI on June 3, 2012. Assistance with travel expenses will be provided. All excellent submissions will be acknowledged by the Centre.

In order to maintain the integrity of the Competition, the paper may be submitted to an electronic source checker such as TurnItIn.

Submissions should be made to Jenny Rothwell. Should you not receive receipt of your electronic submission within three business days, please contact Ms. Rothwell by email or by phone at (519) 888-4567, x32770 or Professor Linda Robinson at (519) 888-4567, x36995.
