Funding for the Gordon H. Cowperthwaite Professional Accounting Education Centre (GHC Centre) is provided by the late Mr. Gordon H. Cowperthwaite and the Peat Marwick Thorne (KPMG) Educational Foundation to improve accounting education at the University of Waterloo and elsewhere in Canada.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Provide funds to support the development of curriculum and educational materials such as textbooks, cases, class notes, and electronic instructional material.
  2. Sponsor symposia, conferences, workshops, or other forums for disseminating new instructional methods and material.
  3. Sponsor visitors, consultants, and other pedagogical experts from outside the School of Accounting and Finance to assist in developing curricula and instructional material.
  4. Provide funds to assist University of Waterloo accounting faculty to improve their teaching material and skills by attending educational symposia, workshops, conferences or universities where accounting education innovation projects are underway.
  5. KPMG funds will be used to fund research and development of teaching materials in the area of complex financial instruments as applied to accounting and auditing.

The board of trustees ensures that representation is maintained in the Centre between the University of Waterloo and the accounting profession.
