Research Centres

Research at the School of Accounting and Finance is very active, sponsoring 7 centres of research.

Centre for Accounting Ethics
Established in 1991 through a grant from the Auditing and Accounting Development Fund, the Centre supports projects designed to enhance the teaching of ethics to accounting students and the research of ethical issues in accounting. The Centre aims to help prepare future accountants and financial managers to exercise professional judgement within an ethical framework and to promote high ethical standards.

The Deloitte Centre for Tax Education and Research
The School of Accounting and Finance at the University of Waterloo and Deloitte share the objectives of improving the quality of tax education and quantity and quality of tax research at the University of Waterloo and throughout Canada. This Centre will foster a close and continuing working relationship between the School and Deloitte.

Centre for Accounting Research and Education (CARE)
Created in 1981, CARE is committed to ensuring the excellence in the areas of fundamental and applied accounting research and accounting education. CARE encourages inter-disciplinary accounting research by accounting academics and non-accounting academics - faculty members from other disciplines at Waterloo whose interests can contribute to the solution of problems of mutual interest.

Information Technology and the Internet in Accounting Education in Canada
This is an exploratory research study on the impact of the Internet and other information technology tools on accounting education and training and their delivery systems in Canada. This research project is designed to improve existing accounting educational delivery systems in both the academic and professional educational environments.

University of Waterloo Centre for Information System Assurance (UWCISA)
The key objectives of the Centre are to stimulate relevant research, support the development/delivery of educational materials, communicate about important ISA issues and Centre activities and promote interaction among ISA educators and practitioners.

Centre for Advanced Studies in Finance
Established in 1994, the Centre provides the focus for research and education in the finance discipline at the University, co-ordinates and supports the Master of Quantitative Finance program, and stimulates and promotes research in finance.

GHC: Centre for Accounting Education
The GHC Centre was established to improve accounting education at the University of Waterloo and elsewhere in Canada. The centre provides funds to support the development of curriculum and educational materials and sponsors symposia, conferences, workshops, or other forums for disseminating new instructional methods and material.
